Seeking out the truth of God
No matter how much evidence you see or hear proving God’s existence, if your heart isn’t willing to believe it, the evidence will mean nothing to you.
Do you want to know if God exists? Then seek Him with all your heart.
I wholeheartedly believe that if you seriously want to know if God is real, He will show Himself to you. He reveals Himself differently to each person because He’s a personal God, so I have no idea how He might make Himself known to you. But if you genuinely look for Him, you will find Him.
There are a couple places in the Bible where it says this:
If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. (Jeremiah 29:13)
But even there you can look for the Lord your God, and you will find him if you look for him with your whole being. (Deuteronomy 4:29)
If you’re not sure how to seek God, why not try simply asking Him to show Himself to you? You could say something along the lines of God, if you’re real, show me that you are. But believe that He could be. There’s no point asking this if you’re closed off to the possibility of Him being real.
How true is this quote by George Bernard Shaw:
The moment we want to believe something, we suddenly see all the arguments for it, and become blind to the arguments against it.
It’s the same in reverse. When we don’t want to believe something, we see all the reasons why not to believe. Don’t search with eyes that are closed. There is no point searching for the truth if you’re not open to learning and discovering. And God loves it when we search out the truth about Him. Look at these two Bible verses:
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. (Proverbs 8:17)
God wants relationships with those who want a relationship with Him. He’ll never force it upon anyone. The closer we step towards God, the closer He’ll step towards us (James 4:8). He’s willing to build a relationship with you. But it’s up to you.
“He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs – for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries. “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him – though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ (Acts 17:24-28)
If you seek Him, you will find Him.
